If you don’t know it already, Amex UK introduced a new benefit trial for its Platinum cardholders. 4 credits are awarded which can be used to book Priority Pass lounges in the UK, valid through the end of this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even better, the credit doesn’t exclude the premium Clubrooms, which usually costs \u00a315 to book. It happens that I’ve got a flight from Gatwick South that very Saturday, so I got to try it out very soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don’t forget an additional perk that comes with Clubrooms booking – you get fast track security included at Gatwick<\/strong>, which otherwise costs \u00a35 or \u00a36. Just show staff your booking at the entrance and they’ll let you in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After security, turn left and follow the sign to find yourself in front of the three lounges: No. 1, Clubrooms and British Airways. No. 1 and Clubrooms share the same space (they are operated by the same group), and here you need to show you booking as well as Priority Pass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first impression of which, to be honest, is very disappointing.<\/p>\n\n\n

From what I gauge, the lounge’s capacity is at around 30 people. It is comprised of two interconnecting rooms, both dull and I couldn’t sense anything “premium” about it.<\/p>\n\n\n

I arrived at half past midday and the lounge was also full, and it quieted down slowly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There’s hardly a buffet, except for the few things on a small table: biscuits, soft beverages and coffee.<\/p>\n\n\n

Instead, you order from a menu.<\/p>\n\n\n

I remember seeing a mention of “three-course” on Clubrooms’ website, but according to the menu only main courses are available. The range is good enough, and each person is entitled to three items which I find quite generous. I picked the spaghetti and fish and chips.<\/p>\n\n\n

Quality-wise I wouldn’t speak very highly of it though. Even by the standard of airport lounge food, I believe they can do much better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As you can see from menu, champagne requires a surcharge. Other drinks, including wine, beer and cocktails are all free.<\/p>\n\n\n

The lounge is tiny and I didn’t feel comfortable to stay here. Shortly after I finished my food I ventured out for a massage at the AeroSpa using my Barclays Dragonpass point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In short my first Clubrooms experience is rather underwhelming. There’s no way I pay the extra \u00a315 to book this place, but if it’s free and I’ve got enough time to spare, I might still come back.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
