I tried the Courtyard hotel at Gatwick<\/a> half a year ago, being a victim to Storm Isha. With an early 8am flight from Gatwick, I need to spend another night at an airport hotel. I decided to spend 40,000 points on the Hilton<\/a> this time.<\/p>\n\n\n

Gatwick is not short of accommodation options. For South there are the Courtyard and Hilton, for North the Hampton and Sofitel, amongst other hotels such as Premier Inn and Bloc. Compared to the Courtyard, Hilton is more convenient, directly connected to the Terminal indoors.<\/p>\n\n\n

The hotel lobby is huge atrium, reminding me of the Crowne Plaza at Heathrow T4.<\/p>\n\n\n

The check-in process went smoothly. I received an upgrade to the Executive King, pushed by the system a couple of days ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hotel was built around 1980, and has undergone a few times of refurbishment, the very recent being 2022. According to the floor plan, it seems that all executive rooms are in the south building.<\/p>\n\n\n

Buildings are adjoined by glass passages, a refreshing change after walking past the dated aisles. <\/p>\n\n\n

And here we are in the south building, which looks much newer than the main building. <\/p>\n\n\n

The room is tidy, more than sufficient for a one-nighter before or after your flight.<\/p>\n\n\n

One main reason I picked the Hilton over others was its executive lounge. I arrived just in time for the happy hour.<\/p>\n\n\n

The buffet is quite poor: tortilla chips, pretzel, flap jack plus a few slices of cucumber and carrot.<\/p>\n\n\n

There is however a menu of hot food to order from.<\/p>\n\n\n

You can order as much as you want, so dinner is sorted!<\/p>\n\n\n

There is a bar and Japanese restaurant in the lobby. Follow the stairs down and you’ll see another bar and the Garden restaurant.<\/p>\n\n\n

A gym next to them.<\/p>\n\n\n

The main entrance is at the same level, but we who use the terminal \/ train station don’t go via here.<\/p>\n\n\n

Breakfast is served at the Garden restaurant, nothing to write home about.<\/p>\n\n\n

Overall the Hilton is a pretty solid choice if you need to stay at Gatwick, given its easy access to the terminal and executive lounge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
