Its companion voucher went through a major overhaul in 2022 though which made it much more appealing, and I will take a close look it today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Travel Together Ticket issued by the Chase British Airways Visa Signature card is, as far as I know, exactly the same, so the following discussions hold for both.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.verylvke.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/ba-amex-premium-plus.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"304\" src=\"http:\/\/www.verylvke.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/ba-amex-premium-plus.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10566\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.verylvke.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/ba-amex-premium-plus.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.verylvke.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/09\/ba-amex-premium-plus-300x190.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To earn the companion voucher, you need to spend \u00a310,000 in a card year. The voucher is issued right after you&#8217;ve met the spending criteria, and valid for two years from that date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Applies to redemption tickets on BA, EI and IB metal<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The cardholder must travel<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The origin can be anywhere<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Works on one-way, return and open-jaw itineraries<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Works on all cabin classes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Save 50% in Avios for one or two persons<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Full taxes and charges are still payable<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are two major improvements: firstly, solo travellers can use it for 50% discount; secondly, it&#8217;s extended to Iberia and Aer Lingus flights too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unfortunately due to the constant efforts of BA to devalue Avios, long-haul redemptions are, very often, no longer very good in value even when the voucher is applied. For short-haul redemptions the math works out better, but in absolute terms you aren&#8217;t saving a lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The best way to use this voucher lies with Iberia, as they have a very generous redemption chart.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.verylvke.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/01\/iberia-plus-redemption-table.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"595\" src=\"https:\/\/www.verylvke.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/01\/iberia-plus-redemption-table.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17812\" style=\"width:400px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.verylvke.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/01\/iberia-plus-redemption-table.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.verylvke.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/01\/iberia-plus-redemption-table-300x223.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.verylvke.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2024\/01\/iberia-plus-redemption-table-768x571.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A one-way flight from Madrid to New York, in business class, costs only 34,000 Avios. For South America it&#8217;s 42,500 or 51,000 Avios. This is incredibly cheap compared to BA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Taxes and fees are also very reasonable. For Madrid &#8211; Buenos Aires return it costs 102,000 Avios + \u00a3236.30 &#8211; superb value! Note that the chart above is for off-peak dates, and it will cost more in peak season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the companion voucher applied, departing from Madrid in off-peak season, you will pay the following figures for a return trip per person:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>New York &#8211; 34,000 Avios + \u00a3215.60<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bogota &#8211; 42,500 Avios + \u00a3224.20<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Buenos Aires &#8211; 51,000 Avios + \u00a3236.30<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Note that you need to book on ba.com rather than iberia.com to use the voucher. You could add your positioning flight to \/ from Madrid in the same booking with the 50% discount applied too. However:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Don&#8217;t add London &#8211; Madrid to the same booking, otherwise it incurs the hefty APD<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Don&#8217;t mix with BA flights, otherwise it increases the cost significantly<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My recommendation is to book e.g. Madrid &#8211; New York &#8211; Madrid &#8211; London using the voucher, and then sort out London &#8211; Madrid separately.
